Tenants demand were as follows
1. SHA to abandon and not to implement the policy (Stepping Forward)
2. The mayor must include Kshama Sawant, and a tenant from SHA to his newly created Housing Afordability and Livibility committee – If you are not at the table, you are on the menu
3 to take the fight to the city-hall because SHA is not listening to the tenants.
4. Mayor and the city council to be very transparent and to consult with tenants for all the up-coming 4 appointments to SHA board. It was very disappointing that SHA management was included the panel that is interviewing candidates to the board (Mayor Office). Letting SHA to choose who will be their governing board is not only wrong but the source of the problem. All the candidates must state their position on this policy in public.
5. Tenants express their anger towards the city council and the mayors office for not coming to the meetings to hear from them. As one woman put it ”
We only see them during the election, Kshama Sawant is the only one who cares us”. Last 4 SHA public meetings over 200 tenants who were not register to vote in the past have registered now to vote .
